Meer dan 800 infanteristen van een regiment van de Amerikaanse Nationale Garde uit Flint vertrekken volgende maand naar Kunduz in het noorden van Afghanistan.
Dat heeft Mlive eerder deze week gemeld. Het gaat om het 1st Battalion, 125th Infantry Regiment dat gelegerd is in Flint in de staat Michigan.
Maandag werd een ceremonie voor deze troepen georganiseerd in de sportzaal van de Grand Blanc High School.
Tijdens de ceremonie zei Ryan Connelly, de commandant van de eenheid, dat het bataljon goed voorbereid en gemotiveerd is om naar Afghanistan te gaan.
De soldaten komen uit alle delen van de staat Michigan en gaan deze week eerst naar Camp Shelby in de staat Mississippi voordat ze in oktober afreizen naar de Noord-Afghaanse provincie Kunduz.
Het 1st Battalion, 125th Infantry Regiment ontving vorig jaar de Deployment Excellence Award voor zijn werk in training, logistiek en bestuur voor een uitzending van 12 maanden naar Irak in 2008.
De eenheid had meer dan 600 soldaten gestationeerd in de provincie Al-Anbar in Irak waarbij meer dan 2.100 gevechtsmissie werden voltooid.
